International Tiger Day or World Tiger Day is celebrated annually on 29 July to make people aware of the dangers and problems faced by tigers around the globe.
Royal Bengal Tiger is the National Animal of India. The scientific name of this animal is Panthera Tigris. It was conferred the status in April 1973.
The decision to recognise this day was taken in 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in Russia.
The largest tiger reserve in India is the Nagarjunsagar-Srisailam Tiger Reserve. Located in the Nallamala forest, the reserve spreads over five districts, Kurnool District, Prakasam District, Guntur District, Nalgonda District and Mahabub Nagar district.
